The Blaster worm is a virus that speads through a flaw in Microsoft's Windows 2000 and Windows XP operating systems. The only way to prevent infection from this worm is to have an active firewall on your computer and to download the security patch from Microsoft.
The virus also will block you from accessing certain websites such as windowsupdate.com. When you connect to the Internet, the worm will attempt to spread to as many computers as possible on your network, then shutdown within 60 seconds. If you attempt to access windowsupdate.com, the address will appear blocked and your computer may shutdown, this is called a Denial of Service attack or DoS.
