Below are examples of dialer applications that can run on your PC and dial high-rate long distance telephone numbers. These applications are in NO way related to 3webLD or any other 3web product. They are usually acquired by surfing to a particular website or by executing a specific program. There are literally thousands of these types of programs on the Internet that could potentially do the exact same thing. Caution is always warranted when surfing the Internet. It is up to the user to know what programs are being downloaded and installed on their computer.
Below is a small list of example programs that will make your computer dial long distance to high rate phone numbers:
- Dialer.Moneytree
- Dialer.Lovemenow
- Dialer.Rampage
- Dialer.Pecdialer
- Dialer.Webview
- Dialer.Fite
- Dialer.Powerdial
- Dialer.Kotu
- Dialer.Dialpass
- Dialer.IEDisco
Important: If you suspect that your computer may be infected, unplug the phone line from your dial-up modem immediately.
Follow the steps below to see if your computer may be infected by such an application:
If you are running Symantec's Norton, McAfee's Anti-Virus or Norman Virus Control:
Make sure your virus definitions are updated then perform a complete virus scan of your computer and delete any virus' that may be on your computer. If you are unable to delete the virus, please proceed to this website and perform a search to find instructions on how to safely remove the problem:
If you are not running a virus scanner, go to this website to perform an online virus scan:
If a virus is detected then please refer to the first link above and perform a search to find instructions on how to remove the problem.
If a particular dialer program is found and after searching on removal instructions, there appear steps involving registry editing, please consult a Computer Technician. Tampering with your computer's registry could cause registry corruption and render your computer inoperative. A qualified technician should be able to safely remove instances of the application in the registry without causing your computer to crash.
Due to the potential risk and complexity of registry entries created by these programs, 3web will not support the removal of such applications.
You can report your findings to the CRTC as a 'scam', if you know the source of the application's presence on the Internet. For more information regarding Dialers, please visit the CRTC's website:
